The nose fills with aromas of mature black and red fruit. Hints of cinnamon and sage give the wine pleasant spicy and herbal undertones. Lots of depth on this wine with lush, velvety tannins that create a long finish.
Wine Enthusiast 89 points - Brandied cherry and cassis aromas are candied and gritty, but get better with airing. The wine is full in body and endowed with just enough acidity. Flavors of baked berry are earthy at the core, with accents of chocolate and herbs. A mellow, not overpowering finish is dry and slightly complex. Drink through 2017.  (Jul 2014)

Wine Spectator 89 points - This polished red offers savory flavors of cherry, black tea, licorice and smoke, with light, firm tannins and gentle acidity. Focused and harmonious. Drink now through 2017. -TM  (Jun 15 2014)

Wine & Spirits 91 points - A blue-fruited tempranillo, this wine has held its freshness as it matured into earthy richness. It’s lush and delicious with black cherry flavor and those exotic, blue fruit notes, gentle and soft with the sweetness of candied almonds to contrast its tannic savor. Ready to drink.  (Dec 2013)

Wine Advocate 89 points - The 2007 Reserva is blends of 90% Tempranillo with 10% Graciano, which fermented in small oak vats for 20 days with remontage and then aged for two years in new and second-fill oak barrels. It has a bright nose of red and black fruit, with a slight herbaceous hint. The palate is supple, with good acidity and a pleasant, slightly bitter finish, quite polished with a hint of alcohol, ready to drink. Drink 2014-2017. (Dec 2013)

Wine maker notes
Aromas of mature black and red fruit fill the nose, with hints of cinnamon and sage lending a pleasant spiciness and herbaceous quality to the bouquet. This is a complex wine with lush, velvety tannins and create a long finish. This age-worthy Reserva is vinified in large French oak vats, then aged in new and second-use French and American oak barrels for 24 months, plus an additional 24 months in bottle. Approachable now, yet will continue to develop for years to come. Decant before serving. Vivanco Reserva’s intensity is a great match for hearty stews, roasted red meats, or even, dark chocolate. Juan Gris’ Still Life graces the label. Many of Gris’ paintings are linked to wine, but this particular piece is on display at the Vivanco Museum. The complexity and elegance of this work remind of the winery’s Reserva.

Technical notes
90% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano

Food pairing
It is recommended that this wine be decanted before consumption. Its intensity allows it to pair well with red meats hearty stews, as well as strong, aged cheeses, or even dark chocolate.
