Wine Advocate 91 points - The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is outstanding. A blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, it was aged 20 months in 40% new French oak, and there are nearly 5,200 cases. A strong effort in this vintage, it boasts ripe black raspberry and blackcurrant fruit intermixed with underbrush and dusty, loamy soil characteristics. The complex aromatics are followed by a beautifully poised, pure, medium to full-bodied Cabernet with silky tannins and a precocious, lush personality. It can be drunk now and over the next decade. (Oct 2014)
Cabernet is planted on some of our most extreme rocky volcanic soils at 2000+ foot elevation which results in darkened wine color and contributes to the concentrated cassis and chocolate flavors. A classic nose of black currant, cassis, licorice and tobacco, these characteristics also saturate the palate, with cocoa emerging on the minute-long finish. Our Pride Cabernet Sauvignon is sometimes blended with 5% Merlot to broaden the mid-palate when needed, and is always blended with up to 10% Petit Verdot to add brightness and focus to the finish.
