A red with balanced body and a fineruby colour. Its aromas are typically spicy and consist of pepper and sweet tobacco; the background notes hint at jam and violet. A pleasant drinkability with good concentration, mature and harmonious tannins with a long-lasting fruity finish.
Wine Advocate 90 points - (a blend of sangiovese and canaiolo nero): Good medium red with apale rim. Racy, perfumed aromas of red berries, mint and rhubarb complicated by a whiff of violet. Then tight and vinous in the mouth, with vibrant acidity lifting the sweet raspberry and sour red cherry flavors. The long, minerally finish features classic sangiovese tannic bite. This wine really opens up and gains in flesh with aeration; I’d decant it at least one hour ahead. Lungarotti’s canaiolo nero is actually a colorino variety, but this is not so apparent in this vintage.
A delicious, value-priced red, the 2009 Rubesco is laced with sweet cherries, tobacco, anise and leather. The aromas and flavors build nicely in the glass as this radiant, polished wine shows off its considerable personality. This is a terrific wine for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2019.
