The utterly profound 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve reveals abundant notes of licorice, creme de cassis, unsmoked high class cigar tobacco, and toasty oak. Full-bodied with fabulous depth, richness, and texture as well as a multilayered mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and loads of potential, this stunning wine is capable of lasting 15-20 years. (Dec 2009)
Cabernet is planted on some of our most extreme rocky volcanic soils at 2000+ foot elevation which results in darkened wine color and contributes to the concentrated cassis and chocolate flavors. A classic nose of black currant, cassis, licorice and tobacco, these characteristics also saturate the palate, with cocoa emerging on the minute-long finish. Our Pride Cabernet Sauvignon is sometimes blended with 5% Merlot to broaden the mid-palate when needed, and is always blended with up to 10% Petit Verdot to add brightness and focus to the finish.

| The 2006 vintage produced some of the most expressive, unctuous wines ever from our Spring Mountain estate, and the Cabernet Sauvignon is no exception. Grapes from individual vineyard blocks ranging from 0.25 to three acres in size were meticulously hand picked, and were then fermented in stainless steel vats and aged separately for 18 months in French oak. The final blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot conveys delectable flavors of cassis, dark cherry, coffee and black tea layered upon a textural palate. After a barrage of up-front fruit, the inky liquid lolls on the mid-palate before finally exploding into a hefty, minutes-long finish. Pushing the limits of concentration as far as possible without sacrificing balance, this is the pure expression of mountain fruit – a wine that needs no justification. |
