A classy, concentrated Margaux, this wine shows elegant, ripe cassis flavors with notes of cedar, tobacco and restrained vanillin oak set in a silky, highly extracted texture underscored by refined, focused tannins.
Wine Spectator 97 points - Exhibits blackberry, mineral, currant and dark chocolate. Full and velvety, with lots of fruit and chewy tannins. Long and caressing, with incredibly sweet fruit and tannins on the finish. Goes on for minutes. A thoroughly gorgeous wine. Best after 2015. 6,615 cases made. –JS
The #18 in Wine Spectator’s 2008 Top 100 (Mar 31 2008)
Top 100 WS 100 points - The 2005 is a prodigious effort from this estate, which, despite some dazzling wines over recent vintages, rarely receives the attention it deserves. This cuvee is off the charts in terms of richness, intensity, power, and overall elegance. A stunning black/purple color is accompanied by scents of graphite, blackberries, cassis, and minerals. Incredibly pure, beautifully textured, and medium to full-bodied with sweet tannin for a 2005, this compelling Margaux will be at its finest between 2010-2030+. (93-95)
points. (Apr 2006)
